Once upon a time, while standing in line at Mozart’s Coffee Roasters’ bakery case, I overheard a conversation between two boys eyeing up a chocolate Cannoli.
Boy #1: I want a chocolate taco.
Boy #2: I don’t like chocolate
Boy #1: I want chocolate on my chocolate
DUDE. SAME. If there’s one thing I’ve explored in ATX more than anything else, its dessert. Below is a list of some of my favorite places to satisfy my sweet tooth cravings in ATX!
Amy’s Ice Creams
I love Amy’s! Ice Cream will always be my first love… we have an inside joke in my house godfather style- don’t ask me about my ice cream. Amy’s is always switching it up, you can always count on them for solid flavors and wacky sundae combinations!
Big Honey Bakery
Quick, if you’re not following Big Honey Bakery on Instagram YOU NEED TO DO IT NOW. She makes these incredible monstrous cookies from home where she has a special ordering system in place, you can learn about it on her page! Once in a while she will do a pop up in her home, where I kid you not, her cookies sold out in 10 minutes with a line out her front door. These cookies are incredible!
Cafe Creme
Cafe Creme is a hidden gem on Oltorf, seriously, don’t blink, you’ll miss it. And that would be terrible. Yes, I know this is a picture of my coffee, but you’ll want to go there and check out the bakery case for yourself!
Cafe Nenai
Although I disposed of the evidence immediately, I’m so grateful Jon’s sister in law took me to Austin’s first South American Bakery and Cafe. Their latin pastries are phenomenal, this is definitely a place you won’t want to miss!!
Churro Co.
Cow Tipping Creamery
Okay, so I also disposed of the evidence from my sundae here too. YOLO. You need to try their Ritzy Business- Peanut Butter ice cream, Brown Sugar hot fudge, Peanut Butter sauce, Ritz Peanut Butter Pretzel bars and Ritz Cracker crumbs. Wow. Just Wow.
Easy Tiger
Easy Tiger is well known in Austin for their amazing breads, German pastries and their Biergarten. Whenever I stop in for a beer, I always check out what’s left in the bakery case- you can never go wrong with a sweet chocolate chip pastry.
Jeni’s Ice Cream
You can legit smell Jeni’s waffle cones baking as you walk down the street on South Congress. Jeni’s was well worth the anticipation and is now finally open! You can count on them for some of the most creative and delicious flavors. PLUS you can take a pint (or two) to go!
Le Politique
Pastry Happy Hour. That’s all I need to say.
Mozart’s Coffee Roasters
Mozart’s is one of the most unique coffee shops in Austin overlooking Lake Austin. They have a large deck, excessive coffee options and of course the most drool worthy bakery case FILLED with various treats! I think I’ve had one of everything by now.
Nothing Bundt Cakes
My dad sent me these for the first time over three years ago for my birthday… and I definitely did not share. These are the cutest bite sized mini bundt cakes with big flavor! My favorites (because I can’t just pick one) are lemon poppyseed and red velvet, both with cream cheese icing!
popbar
popbar deserves a spot on this list because I definitely thought I would not like it. I love the creaminess and thickness of eating ice cream out of a cone, I often find you lose that flavor and experience in ice cream pops. BUT I was wrong, popbar is delicious and they have some very inventive flavors! Anytime I see Nutella as an ingredient I’m in.
Prohibition Creamery
Prohibition Creamery is just like it sounds- boozy ice cream… and what’s better than combining alcohol with your dessert?! They are an ice creamery with a full bar and an interesting menu. I highly recommend the Grasshopper- creme de menthe, chocolate ice cream and mint. Although, you can get creative and invent your own concoction- I ordered a shake with chocolate sauce, peanut butter, salted caramel and added Frangelico for a hazelnut/ nutella taste!
Salty Sow
The Salty Sow will forever be my favorite restaurant in ATX and you can always count on me to order dessert, I’ve had one of everything on the menu! I honestly can’t recommend one thing over another, they are all incredible. Featured above is their chocolate truffle cake and beignets with ice cream. The also have yummy sweets like bananas foster and creme brûlée.
Sprinkles Cupcakes
You are seeing this correctly. This is a Cupcake ATM. HOW COOL IS THAT?! Use the screen to order your cupcake and pick it up at the window to the right. I love technology.
The Baked Bear
Although The Baked Bear is technically a “chain” with another location in California… I still give it a 10/10. It’s just THAT good. They have different cookie, ice cream and topping combinations to choose from. I chose a Snickerdoodle cookie on top, Espresso ice cream in the middle, topped with Nutella and a Sea Salt Peanut Butter Chocolate Chip cookie on the bottom. And I had it warmed. And I ate it all. By myself. No Regrets.
Voodoo Doughnut
Voodoo is an ATX Staple- you have to try their iconic white icing donut with captain crunch cereal on top! The photo says it all, be sure to bring cash!!
Walton’s Fancy & Staple
Y’all! This cookie is as big as my head!! The bakery case at Walton’s does not disappoint. I’ve tried many different cookies but my favorites are their Peanut Butter Sugar Cookie and Red Velvet Macaron! Stop in on your next stroll down West 6th Street!
These might be my favorite places specifically for dessert, but don’t think I don’t get dessert everywhere! Some of my favorite things to eat include the Monster Cookie from Henbit, Chocolate Cake with Pistachios and Cayanne Mexican Vanilla ice cream from Second Bar + Kitchen, Beignets from Elizabeth Street Cafe, Peanut Butter Cookie Ice Cream Sandwich from Parkside and OF COURSE the gelato from Numero 28.
There’s also quite a few places I’ve been wanting to try… dessert happy hour anyone?!
Bougie’s Donuts
I heard they are the BEST donuts in ATX, which must be true, because when I went they were sold out.
Cold Cookie Co.
A food truck serving ice cream sundae concoctions topped with delicious cookies.
Gordoughs Public House
Look at their insta… chocolate on chocolate on chocolate on a donut.
Ooga Booga Waffles
They make some pretty interest sweet and savory waffle sandwiches!
Taco Sweets
Ice Cream Tacos!!!!!
The Yard Milkshake Bar
You know the place, the one with the themed milkshakes topped with a piece of cake…
